December 5, 2013. About 70 golfers from seven countries vie for top honours in the Asia Pacific Junior Golf Championship beginning at the Royal Calcutta Golf Club today.

 

Delhi’s Manu Gandas will lead the Indian challenge, who enter as fovourites. The event will also see local boy Viraj Madappa who has been making ripples both in the junior and senior category.

 

The two youngsters will find able assistance from two other talented golfers Karandeep Kocchar and Arjun Prasad to make the four-member Indian boys team on home turf.

 

The four-day tournament will be played on stroke play format with the boys competing over 72 holes, while the girls will have a 54-hole competition in three age groups Group A (15-17), Group B (13-14) and Group C (11-12).

 

India will find strong challenge from Thailand who are fielding a 17-member contingent, while the other serious contenders include Chinese Taipei who too have fielded a full-fledged team.

 

Bangladesh, Nepal, Hong Kong and Sri Lanka are the other teams in the fray.
