Bhullar shoots 67 in Morocco

Playing in his seventh European Tour event this season, Gaganjeet Bhullar shot a fine five-under par 67 to stay up on the leader board of the Troph

March 14, 2014: Playing in his seventh European Tour event this season, Gaganjeet Bhullar shot a fine five-under par 67 to stay 8th on the leader board of the Trophée Hassan II in Morocco on Thursday. While countrymen, Shiv Kapur carded two-under 70 to lie at 26th place on the opening day.

 

“I got off to a really good start, I was two under after two holes. Today, I struck the ball really good,” Bhullar told the European Tour.

 

“My short game was quite up to the mark today. For the first time I am playing on this golf course, and I am really enjoying it,” Bhullar added.

Meanwhile, Spain’s Alejandro Cañizares carded a brilliant 62 to claim the clubhouse lead after the first round of the Trophée Hassan II in Agadir, Morocco.

 

Cañizares fought the windier conditions faced by the afternoon starters to fire 11 birdies and one bogey at Golf du Palais Royal, although that was only one ahead of England’s Seve Benson.

 

“It was one of those days for me, my swing felt great, I started putting well and the putts went in,” Cañizares said after the lowest round of his European Tour career. “It was a lot of fun, when golf is like this it’s easy.

 

Playing his first full card on the European Tour for the first time,  Gaganjeet has made cut in five out of six tour events so far. Five-time Asian tour champion kicked off his European Tour season with a tied 10th finish in first even of desert swing, Abu Dhabi Golf Championship. The 26-year old ended tied 22 in the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters. Even though, he missed cut in the Dubai Desert Classic, he bounced back in Joburg Open, Africa Open and Tshwane Open with decent performance. Bhullar would certainly aim for better act in Morocco.

 

Kapur had a disappointing start, when three bogeys and a double bogey on eighth hole sealed his climb on the leader board, However, he returned on back nine with a birdie on 10th followed by four on 14th,15th , 16th and 17th hole. He struck seven birdies in total to finish two-under 70 at the end of opening day.
