Bhullar set to tee at Joburg Open

February 5, 2014: India’s ace golfer Gaganjeet Bhullar is set to tee on his fourth European Tour event of this season at Joburg Open in Royal Johannesburg &Kingston GC on Thursday. Bhullar is the sole Indian face in the tournament

 

The 25-year-old Kapurthala golfer will try to regain his fine form that he displayed in initial two Desert Swing events in Abu Dhabi and Doha.

 

Five-time Asian Tour Champion is playing his first full season on the European Tour. He ended the 2013 season with a win at the Indonesian Open, has begun his European tour on a positive note. He finished tied 10th at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship in third week of January. Bhullar continued his impressive stride in Commercial Bank Qatar Masters to end the tournament tied 22nd. However, he just could not get going with his aggressive approach in the final round of desert swing at Omega Dubai Desert Classic and missed the halfway cut.

 

Bhullar will tee along with Argentina’s Ariel Canete and South Africa’s Ruan De Smidt at Johannes burg on Thursday morning. Bhullar is ranked 139th in the Official World Golf Ranking and placed at 74 in Race to Dubai.

 

The Joburg Open, co-sanctioned by European Tour and Sunshine Tour debuted in 2007; the Joburg Open has helped to grow the international careers of many of its winners.

 

The Joburg Open has its importance for being the second event in the Open Qualifying Series. The players vying for the Joburg Open trophy will have their eyes set for the opportunity to play in golf’s oldest and most international Major Championship.

 

Three competitors who finish in the top ten and ties, who are not already exempt, will secure their places in the field for the 143rd Open Championship, which will be played from 17-20 July.

 

Joburg Open will be played through February 6-9 at Johannesburg.
