June 14, 2014. India’s Shiv Kapur made the cut at the US Open giving him more chances to climb up the leaderboard as the young golfer displayed some solid golf at Pinehurst. Kapur who finished three over par 143 owing to a nasty double bogey on the 16th actually made headlines for an otherwise brilliant round. At one point the Purdue lad was three under for the second round and inside the top 20. Kapur is now tied 33 with the like of Mickelson, Jim Furyk.

“With tougher pin positions and the course going into the weekend, patience would be key to the performance there,” said Kapur to golfingindian.com. “I had a good solid round but for one judgement error on 16th during round two which could have turned a good day into a great one. But nonetheless played 17th great holes.”

Kapur wore his favourite colours for the R2, a patriotic orange and said his strategy was simply attempt pars and remain patient. “I have practised a few rounds here, some with Leonard, Watney and Furyk and they gave me a few good tips on the way courses play in the region.”

The best finish by an Indian player in the @usopengolf is @JeevMilkhaSingh T36 at Oakmont in 2007. Shiv Kapur can top it if he plays as consistently as he has been. Kapur has been training with Swing Coach Jamie Gough, who is also staying at the same apartment as Kapur along with the player’s manager Neeraj Sareen and dad Ravi Kapur.
