Horschel and Piercy win Zurich Classic

Apr 30, 2015: Billy Horschel and Scott Piercy shot a final-round 5-under 67 to win the Zurich Classic of New Orleans by one over Jason Dufner and Pat Perez. After making two bogeys and two double bogeys in round two, the first day of Foursomes, Horschel and Piercy were bogey-free in the final round.

Each player receives 400 FedExCup points for the victory. Piercy is projected to move to No. 27 in the standings and Horschel to No. 33.

Horschel, a Zurich ambassador, previously won the Zurich Classic in 2013. He becomes the 10thplayer to claim multiple victories at the event and first since Carlos Franco won back-to-back in 1999 and 2000.

Horschel becomes the first past FedExCup champion to win the Zurich Classic (won FedExCup title in 2014) and third to win during the 2017-18 season (Justin Thomas/THE CJ CUP @ NINE BRIDGES, The Honda Classic; Rory McIlroy/Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard).

The win is the fifth of Horschel’s career in his 191st start at the age of 31 years, 4 months, 22 days. Horschel’s PGA TOUR titles: 2018 Zurich Classic of New Orleans, 2017 AT&T Byron Nelson, 2014 TOUR Championship, 2014 BMW Championship, 2013 Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

Scott Piercy earned his fourth PGA TOUR title in his 251st start at the age of 39 years, 5 months, 23 days. Piercy’s PGA TOUR victories: 2018 Zurich Classic of New Orleans, 2015 Barbasol Championship, 2012 RBC Canadian Open, 2011 Barracuda Championship.

Piercy had one top-10 during the 2017-18 season entering the week (T6/CareerBuilder Challenge). He made the cut twice (T13/2012, T34/2009) in eight previous appearances at the Zurich Classic, all in the individual stroke-play format.

Both players were previously qualified for THE PLAYERS Championship (Horschel/2017 AT&T Byron Nelson winner, Piercy/No. 98 in final 2016-17 FedExCup standings).

Jason Dufner/Pat Perez

Jason Dufner and Pat Perez placed second, recording a 4-under 68 in the final round to finish one stroke out of the lead. Dufner/Perez improved their score the second time playing each format (66/R1, 61/R3 in Four-ball; 72/R2, 68/R4 in Foursomes).

Dufner won the Zurich Classic of New Orleans in 2012 and has finished in the top-10 six of the last seven years (2nd/2018, T5/2017, Won/2012, T3/2011, T7/2010, T9/2009). Dufner teamed up with Patton Kizzire in 2017.

The runner-up is Dufner’s first top-10 of the 2017-18 season and first time finishing in the top two since winning the 2017 Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide.

Perez earned his fourth top-five of the season (2nd/Zurich Classic of New Orleans, T4/Sentry Tournament of Champions, T5/THE CJ CUP @ NINE BRIDGES, Won/CIMB Classic) and is projected to move to No. 11 in the FedExCup standings.
