May 31, 2014. Today we played at Castle Stuart, another gem of a course, right outside Inverness. This was the home to the last three Scottish opens. Two years ago Jeev Milkha Singh was the winner and his autographed bottle in the local highland whiskey, Tomatin sits in a glass case in the clubhouse. The manager gave me a tour of the facilities and I had the privilege of tasting a 25 year old Tomatin in the private clubhouse. This golf course is absolutely spectacular. A true links course with immaculate fairways and green and expansive vistas of the mountains and the sea. The weather couldn’t have been better, sunny and windless. From here we drove on to the small town of Macarhsnish, on the western edge of Scotland where 36 holes await us tomorrow. The drive was magnificent as we went past the Loch Ness and the Scottish highlands sprinkled with picturesque towns set back in time and ruins of old forts. One could only imagine the battles that have played our here centuries ago as the scots under William Wallace the bravehart took on the English armies.

We made a dinner stop in a sleepy little town called inverrery. We were pleasantly surprised to find an Indian restaurant here, run by people from Bangladesh. Since we are in a rush we took the food to go. Eating chicken tikka masala while driving through the Scottish highlands in a bus full of golfers based in the US can only be described as surreal.
