June 20, 2015: SSP Chawrasia fired himself into the mix at the Queens Cup with a timely 67 in the third round on Saturday. Chawrasia made three birdies on either side of his march around the clubhouse to catapult himself into T4 at 6-under 207. Mithun Perera was keeping the Indian company after the Lankan made 68 in the third round. Akinori Tani surged into a three shot lead, shooting an impressive 64 on Saturday.

Chawrasia began with a birdie at the first hole, before he gave the advantage straight back to the course with a bogey at the second hole. The man from Kolkata shot consecutive birdies at the fifth and sixth holes to go two under for the round.

Chawrasia protected his cushion by making three pars to the turn, moving past the front nine in 34 shots on this par-71 course. He made two more birdies at the 10th and 11th holes to get to four under for the round.

A second bogey at the 14th was nullified by a sixth birdie a couple of shots later. Chawrasia’s score was even more impressive considering that he made just five of fourteen fairways and hit nine of 18 greens in regulation.

“I played very good today, to be honest. I putted well but I am not hitting the ball as good. It’s a little bit wet out there due to the rain earlier but it was not as tough compared to the first two rounds. It wasn’t really windy. The course is a little bit soft today. I have been playing good this week. I hope I can continue to play like how I did in the last three rounds tomorrow,” said Chawrasia. “I will stick to the same mindset for tomorrow and we will see how it goes. I almost eagled the first hole as I hit my second shot to about one-foot from the pin and that got me off to a good start. I also had a 20-feet putt for birdie on the fifth hole which was one of the notable birdies for me today.”

Chiragh Kumar enjoyed a good start – four  birdies punctuated by a double bogey five at the par-3 third hole. After making the turn in 34 shots, he took 36 shots to complete the second nine, hurt by bogeys at 11 and 18.

Akinori owned the most sensational performance of the day when he produced a blemish free 64 ahead of the final round. Tani made four birdies on the front nine and three more on the return stretch to complete his 64.

Overnight leader Prayad Marksaeng failed to push on and add to his score, signing on an even 71 in the third round. Siddikur Rahman made a 67 to jump into solo third on the leaderboard.
