Chiragh Kumar, with a second straight 68, and Rashid Khan, with a brilliant 66, worked their way inside the top ten at the halfway stage of the True Thailand Classic at the Black Mountain Golf Club. Aussie Scott Hend shot a memorable 64 to fire himself into the lead, tied with Pelle Edberg who added 67 to his first round 65.

Kumar and Khan ended the second day at 8-under 136, just four strokes off the pace set by the two leaders. Himmat Rai and Arjun Atwal shot an even 72 in the second round, dropping to 32nd and 49th respectively on a leaderboard that churned much on the second day.

Jeev Milkha Singh and Gaganjeet Bhullar worked their way back up the order, striking 68 each to join Atwal at T49. The three men were at three under through 36 holes.

The cut fell at one under and worse, leaving Shiv Kapur, SSP Chawrasia and Rahil Gangjee scrambling for an early flight home ahead of the Hero Indian Open next week.

Kapur added a 74 to his first round 70 to slip to two over and fall out of the tournament. The Black Mountain course was also unforgiving of SSP Chawrasia. The golfer from Kolkata was sitting pretty after a 68 on Thursday, but an ungainly 76 in the second round saw him being dropped to even par at 144 and out for the week.

Rahil Gangjee has been in good form recently, but 72 and 73 were barely adequate this week. A slew of low scoring cards meant that Gangjee’s one over total of 145 was way too short to help him survive the cut.

Hend was spectacular on Friday – firing six birdies and an eagle three at the second hole as he posted 64 to sail into the lead.

Frenchman Benjamin Hebert soared from 81st to 9th after he too shot six birdies and an eagle at the sixth hole in his score of 64.
