06, April 2015. As Anirban Lahiri plays the biggest tournament of his life, The Masters, his dad shares a few elements of this success story so far. Anirban learnt golf from his father and has often said it was the military that allowed him to pursue the sport. [WATCH VIDEO BELOW]

Lahiri learned to play golf at the age of eight from his father, Dr. Tushar Lahiri, a physician with the armed forces who was also a recreational golfer. “I would just go out there and I would go pick up golf balls for him, and we would go chip, putt for 15 minutes because it was getting dark,” Lahiri remembers.

Col Lahiri in a short interview with golfingindian.com shared what makes Anirban a focussed and dedicated golfer.

TRANSFORMATION IN ANIRBAN

The transformation has been in self-belief, playing and chatting with the US and prominent European tour players. Long conversations with Ernie Els made him believe that sooner rather than later he ought to be playing there (United States)

DEFINING MOMENT YET TO COME?

Definitely the defining moment of his career to date a lot depends on how he plays (The Masters), which is the million dollar question in golf. How one ends up playing is the mystery that makes golf so thrilling. Hopefully he starts feeling comfortable on those courses, to be fair it does take some time adapting to a higher level

MOTTO FOR HIM

The one thing every golfer has to acknowledge no matter how well he is playing, a great score or a victory is bestowed on you and is not yours by right. So the bottom line is GRATITUDE to acknowledge that it is not possible without the help of so many. Keep seeking to excel and be thankful for all that comes your way
