LESSONS TO BE LEARNT FROM KOREAN GOLF
The 37th Queen Sirikit Cup culminated at the renowned HongKong Golf Club in Fanling last week – the Championship was yet another feather in club’s longstanding Royal history that dates back to 1889! An impeccably run residential club with three marvellous golf courses. A must visit for golfing aficionados!
WAAC heavily displayed on the mighty winning team’s golf bags was sure a head turner. As I watched the mighty Korean girls tee off in the morning a glance towards the TEAM GOLF BAGS gave me something more to ponder over than just the smart Blue & white colour! Once I got a closer look – to my amazement there were WORDS etched on the GOLF BAG too! Perhaps these words gave the ultimate thumping victory for the record 17th time to the Korean Girls.
WAAC- “WIN AT ALL COST”- were the words etched on the Korean Team’s golf bags. With pride this amazing country has held an all time record of 16 wins. 8 straight wins out of the last 9 played giving the other 13 countries a gentle reminder that TEAM KOREA came to WIN for the 17th title! A commendable 2nd spot was taken by Philippines by just a single stroke from Team New Zealand.
Heavy rain played spoilsport through the week, keeping the host club administrators and referees on their toes. The bad weather failed to be a deterrent to the excellent under par scores that came in. A lot to learn for our young team!
The only player to card three straight under par scores was HYUN KYUNG PARK with scores of 70, 70 & 69 in challenging playing conditions.
Smiling officials were seen as rain stopped briefly giving cheer to the closing ceremony and prize distribution.
My fourth visit to HongKong Golf Club since 1981- I can only give kudos to HongKong Golf Club – for becoming better and better each time!
Adieu Hongkong- as the Queen Sirikit flag was handed over to the next host country’s Team Captain- will the Koreans let anyone win on their turf in 2016?
