Titleist’s DT has always been known in golf circles as a well-rounded performance ball with a softer feel and lower compression than most distance-oriented models on the market, reports PGATour.com

In each of the past three DT introductions, Titleist made it a point to give the ball — DT Solo is the current ball in the line — a softer feel than its predecessor.

With the launch of the new DT TruSoft ($22 per dozen MAP), Titleist has once again placed special emphasis on feel with the addition of a new core and ionomer cover blend — the softest core construction and cover the company has ever produced — that provides short game playability without sacrificing performance.

According to Titleist, DT TruSoft is 15 points softer than DT Solo on the company’s compression measuring chart, putting the compression in the mid 50’s.

“We’ve learned a lot from our experience over the years with very low compression core technology, which we’ve used in the centers of our dual core products,” said Matt Hogge, Titleist golf ball R&D’s director of product implementation. “We know how to make the formulations and manufacture them consistently, so that every DT TruSoft feels and performs the same every time you tee it up.”

While the new core and cover offer a significantly softer feel and sound than previous DT version, Titleist’s golf ball R&D department made sure the new combination didn’t affect performance, especially when it came to short game spin.

“We’ve balanced our core and cover combination to deliver a great feeling ball with performance on every type of shot,” Hogge said. “When it comes to making low compression golf balls, what’s often sacrificed is spin performance on shots into the green. Any shot to the green without sufficient spin will hit and release quickly, making it extremely difficult to stop the ball close to the hole or hold the green. There is clearly a point of diminishing returns. We’ve moved away from that trend with DT TruSoft by maintaining really good short game spin relative to those products.”

When combined, the fast, low-compression core and Pure ionomer cover deliver deliver low spin in the long game and consistent short game spin for playability into and around the green. A 376 tetrahedral dimple design on cover delivers a tighter, more consistent ball flight.
