June 15,2014. The one thing that makes US Open even more special is the fact that the final day falls on Father’s Day. For Shiv Kapur, who is the only Indian in the field and displaying some stellar golf, this game is particularly special as his dad walks the course with him and the two are staying together in an apartment with Shiv’s swing coach Jamie Gough.

Ravi Kapur has walked several courses with his son but none of those tournaments fell on a special ocassion like this and being at a US Open final is bound to be a gamechanging moment. “US Open is the US Open! The atmosphere is electrifying.”

Kapur is tied 23rd ahead of players like Mickelson and has soldiered the tough pins of Pinehurst with resilience. “Shiv is in a good frame of mind and feels he belongs at this stage.Playing near perfect golf and staying patient has been the key,” says his dad.

Kapur’s game has been solid at the US Open and he also credits a lot of that to the advise from his coaches who are present at the venue to give him timely suggestions. Kapur senior pointed out, “Bob was all praise for Shiv’s attitude, his inputs have been of immense help.Bob is a great guy to work with. Jamie has been Shiv’ coach for a while now and his presence here is very reassuring for Shiv.”

Father’s Day in America is a big day. Many sons and daughters come for this tournament especially for its timing. Many players put their father’s name on their bags this week instead of their own – Brendon Todd’s bag reads “Rock Todd” – and Sergio’s reads ‘Victor Garcia.’

A year ago on Father’s Day, Justin Rose holed a putt to win the U.S. Open. He kissed the golf ball, pointed skyward and cried. The Star reports he had been introduced to golf by his father, Ken, who wasn’t around to see his son’s greatest achievement.
