December 1, 2013. Just a week before, at World Cup of Golf in Melbourne he finished at the bottom of the leaderboard in the elite field of 60, but today he has reversed his destiny, Gaganjeet Bhullar(64-67-69-68) has won the $750,000 Indonesian Open at Pantai Indah Kapuk in Jakarta.

 

Bhullar finished on three-under-par 68, all his birdies were  on the back nine for a 16-under-par 268 winning total.

 

The sixth ranked Indian on the Asian Tour has been desperately waiting for this magical return of fate, and it did happen finally in Indonesia after he began his target attack with a opening round of 64 to push all others behind. He maintained his lead throughout the four days. The determined effort swa him through.

 

Nicholas Fung (66-67-72-66) of Malaysia displayed an equally laudable golfing talent to finish three shot behind the leader as joint runners up with Thai golfer Chapchai Nirat.  Duo ended with a total score of 271. Youngster Fung also got additional gift of securing tour card for 2014.

 

Siddikur Rahman of Bangladesh continued his consistent form and ended with a total score 272 (71-65-69-67), to finish fourth in the tournament. He remained four shot behind the leader.

 

Jyoti Randhawa( 69-70-65-69) was second best placed Indian tied fifth. Anirban Lahiri(71-68-67-68)  finished tied 6th on the leader board.

 

A 12-week stretch resulted in two Asian Tour victories for Bhullar last year and he was determined  to repeat the feat in 10th straight event after representing his country at the World Cup of Golf last week. This is his fifth Asian Tour victory and 15th professional title.

 

Bhullar had said that Indonesia is really close to his heart. He always played well here. ” Good to be in a place where you are mentally and physically comfortable, ” He had said.

 

The win will give the Indian youngster, who was awarded country’s top sport honour Arjun Award this year, deserving boost.
