June 5, 2015: Gauri Monga was the best Indian player in the first round of the Hong Kong Ladies Open at the Old Course of the Club. Two Chinese Taipei professionals and a Thai shared the lead after the first round of the LAGT event.

Monga was looking good for a handy score till she surrendered shots at the 8th and 9th holes, where she made bogeys. She recovered to make a birdie at the 11th hole, but a double bogey five at the 16th set her back to three over for the round. But that was still good enough for a tie for 20th with nine others.

Sharmila Nicollet ended the day two behind Monga. Her 5-over 77 included four bogeys, two birdies punctuated by a painful triple bogey at the fourth hole. She is lying T41 after 18 holes.

Neha Tripathi punched out a 78 on her card despite making birdies at the first, ninth and eleventh holes. Neha was pushed down the order by the seven bogeys and a double at the 17th that dragged her into T47.

Amandeep Drall made six bogeys and a double bogey six at the fourth to sign on an 80. Vani Kapoor was keeping her company in T62, after she made seven bogeys and a double at the tenth hole.
Chinese Taipei’s Ssu-Chia Cheng, and Hsinning Yeh, and Thailand’s Wichanee Meechal,  shot identical scores of three-under 69 to jointly sit on top spot.

It could have been a four-way lead, but South Korea’s Jeong Hwa Lee, who was also three-under at the 15th hole, double-bogeyed the par-3, 16th to card out with a two-under 70 to share the fourth spot with Thailand’s Rungthiwa Pangjan and Chinese Taipei’s Chih-Min Chen.

“I love music and never really thought much about the game. So I was kind of cool and turned my attention on the game,” said Yeh who prepared for her round with a sumptuous breakfast and some music to her ears.

“I was hitting my second shots really well and that helped as the fairways were tight and the greens small,” said Chen in adding that she would use the same approach tomorrow.

Wichanee, 22, from Bangkok, whose group was at the tail-end of the draw, had a great day on the greens. “It was really a boost to have putted well. Even my approach was good. So I look forward with full confidence tomorrow,” said the Thai, who posted birdies on holes 1, 6, 15, 18 and dropped on at the 7th.
