August 26, 2013. Rory McIlroy has asked his fans to read the rumors of his breakup with Caroline Wozniacki as a grain of salt. He denied these reports as 99.9%  false through a tweet on Sunday, which was later followed by a tweet from Wozniacki, restoring the couple’s pic to her profile.

This was after the Irish Independent flashed the news that the glamour couple of the sporting world have chosen to split ways.

The Irish Independent had reported that sad break-up has been described as “very difficult” for the couple, but in particular, for Wozniacki who was besotted with the 24-year-old golfer. They had been dating since they met at a boxing match in Germany in 2011 and their very public romance charmed the world.

According to the newspaper, the twice-major winner is believed to have initiated the split, but has stopped short of making the news public.

A source close to McIlroy told the Sunday Independent yesterday: “They’re done, it’s over.” The New York Post asked him on Friday about the relationship, following his second round at The Barclays event in New Jersey.

However, instead of announcing any break-up, he said, “Uh-huh, yeah, it’s all good. Just because we changed our Twitter profile picture doesn’t mean that we’re not together. But yeah, it’s all good.”

McIlroy-Wozniacki breakup news has made headlines many a times and those earlier reports were always proven wrong.

McIlroy sent out a tweet on Sunday morning that advised his followers to take what they read with a grain of salt.
