THE INDIA GOLF AWARDS

It’s undoubtedly rare to see other sports getting any real recognition in our predominantly cricket-mad land. Even our national sport, hockey, doesn’t do as well and football is only just catching on. So it’s refreshing to see the likes of Take Solutions and golfingindian.com take the initiative to recognize the leading names of Indian golf not just within the sport but those from the corporate sector who do their bit to further this fine game.

Last night the awards, created by leading golfing journalist Shaili Chopra, felicitated over 30 special winners across various categories chosen by a special jury headed by golfing legend Gary Player. GQ also partnered with the event to recognize the golfer who delivered on the style front.

Some notable winners were:

Best Pro Award: Gaganjeet Bhullar

The Audi People’s Choice Award: Anirban Lahiri

Global Recognition Award: Shiv Kapur and Arjun Atwal

Award for outstanding contribution by a corporate: Pawan Munjal of Hero

Lifetime Achievement Award: Sita Rawley and Late Billoo Sethi

GQ Best Dressed Golfer Award: Jyoti Randhawa

The guest list for India’s first ever golfing awards included the likes of Suhel Seth, Swapan Seth, Neelam Rudy, standup artiste Papa CJ, fashion designer Nikhil Mehra and cricketer Murali Kartik. Corporate titans included Pawan Munjal of Hero Moto, Puneet Chaddha of HSBC and Aditya Khaitan of McLeod Russel, among others.

Whether you’re teetering on the edge of taking up golfing or are a pro on the greens, head over to www.golfingindian.com for more information on the sport. And take the time to pick out a good sweater and a pair of chinos.
