October 9, 2013. Some interesting contest will be on display when country’s top two amateur lady golfers Gurbani Singh and Aditi Ashok resume rivalry at Classic Golf Course in Gurgaon today.

Usha Northern India Ladies & Junior Girls Golf Championship, an Indian Golf Union (IGU) categorized event, is set to get underway in Gurgaon. This is one of the four zonal events sponsored by Usha. The event, which has seen a record 61 entries this year, will be played over three days and 54 holes in the stroke-play format.

Gurbani Singh of the Delhi Golf Club, the current Order of Merit leader of the IGU Ladies Amateur Golf Tour, is coming off a facile victory in Chandigarh last week. She has had a splendid season so far, will again start as favourite.

Bangalore’s Aditi Ashok, who missed the Chandigarh event, has been drawn to tee off at Gurgaon. Both have held the distinction of being the youngest winners of the IGU Ladies Tour and last year, Gurbani piped Aditi to the post to win the tour. They are again among the top two this year and are clearly looking to pull away decisively from the chasing pack. The tournament will see the winner emerge of Friday, October 11.

Other participants to look out for in the tournament will be the likes of Gauri Monga, Millie Saroha, Riddhima Dilawari and Sehar Atwal, regular top 10 finishers and who will be eager to make their move up in merit list.

The Ladies will also look to log some valuable points to make it to the Indian National Squad. With Golf being included in the 2016 Summer Olympics, this will be important to give them the much-needed international exposure, if they ultimately make it to the Indian team for the Olympics.
