Nov 23, 2016: Tyrrell Hatton’s breakthrough European Tour victory at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship has earned the young Englishman his maiden Hilton European Tour Golfer of the Month award for October.

The 25 year old produced a stunning 62 to equal the course record at St Andrews in the third round before returning to the Old Course the following day to compile an accomplished 66 and ease to a four-shot victory over countryman Ross Fisher and South Africa’s Richard Sterne.

As a Hilton Ambassador, Hatton is already a member of the hotel’s renowned loyalty scheme and enjoys Hilton HHonors Diamond Elite Status, but he will receive an extra 50,000 Hilton HHonors points, which can be redeemed at any of Hilton’s 4,600 properties around the world, in recognition of winning his first Golfer of the Month award.

Hatton’s victory was voted the highlight of another great month of golf on the European Tour, with Alex Noren and Padraig Harrington respectively voted second and third by a panel of golf media.

“Obviously this is a special award. I had my first win and I had another top ten in there, so it was a good month for me and as a Hilton Ambassador it was about time I was close to winning one of their awards. It was a really good month for me though and hopefully I can win many more.

“To get my first win at St Andrews was amazing. It was just such a special week from start to finish. I’ll certainly look forward to going back there. I’ll take a lot of positives and confidence from that week. To play the way I did and to get him first win was great I will take that into the events we play and hopefully get another win.

“Hilton are a partner of the European Tour and we stay in their hotels. They look after me really well and it is a great brand to be associated with. You know you’ve had a good month of golf when you win this award and I’m very thankful.” said Hatton.

Noren took second spot in the monthly competition following his third victory of the year at the British Masters presented by Sky Sports, while Harrington took third place after securing his first European Tour win in eight years at the Portugal Masters.

Iain Carter, golf correspondent for BBC Radio 5Live and Chairman of the Association of Golf Writers, said: “October was another great month of golf on the European Tour and the three candidates for the Hilton Golfer of the Month Award proved that very point.

“Padraig Harington is one of the most popular players in the world so his first European Tour win in eight years at the Portugal Masters was a hugely popular victory. Alex Noren’s success at the British Masters presented by Sky Sports further enforced the Swede’s growing reputation as truly world-class player, but the panel felt the emphatic nature of Tyrrell Hatton’s first European Tour victory at the Home of Golf was the stand out performance of October. Tyrrell is enjoying a remarkable rise through the professional ranks and his maiden win at such a big event on the Tour confirmed his status as one of the future stars of world golf.”

Hilton, the Official Hotel Supplier to The European Tour, is the Official Sponsor of the European Tour Golfer of the Month award, which recognizes and rewards the best performances of European Tour members each month.

HHonors Diamond Elite Status will provides its members with a host of fantastic benefits at 4,600 hotels within the Hilton portfolio around the world, including complimentary access to Executive Floors, late checkouts, 48-hour room guarantees and, pending availability, complimentary room upgrades.
