Nov 30, 2013. The year 2013 is proving its worth for Delhi golfer Gauri monga, which she can proudly call her comeback year. At the Hero Women’s Indian Open, Amateur Monga finished tied 5th, in what has been a huge success story for Indian women’s golf.

” My driving was really working for me today. I was straight, on the fairway and my putting also worked. I have been very pleased with my game.” Many in the gallery says Monga knows the Delhi Golf Club the best in this field. She proved that by using her driver unlike most other players who chose to let it rest. “Many players don’t use the driver in a bid to hit medium distance. But my experience is that because at DGC if your tee shot is fine, then you are likely to hit the fairways and find centre. I don’t get my drive long, not long enough as many of other players but a driver helps to keep it on the fairway and to me that was my main focus.”

It was in June this year, 20-year-old, Gauri beat back a strong challenge from in-form Gurbani Singh to win the Usha IGU Southern India Ladies golf tournament title. With this win, she also ended the title draught that has been haunting for almost two years. After that, as they say is history. She won the Srilanka Open and followed it with another win at the Usha Ladies at the Delhi Golf Club.

After completing her Intermediate from Modern School, Delhi, she has chosen to pursue Business Management at Integrated Institute of Learning and Management, along with her golfing challenges.

Gauri has had a strong golf career, which took off with her win at All India Ladies in 2010-11, when she also topped Order of Merit.

But her unfortunate suspension by Indian Golf Union for four months cost her an Asian Games appearance and then her school-leaving examinations put a break on her career. Though she couldn’t compete, Gauri practiced her game all day at the Delhi Golf Club.

A huge fan of Tiger Woods, Gauri sees her inspiration in him. When she is not golfing, she is either sleeping or listening to Music.

Gauri does not plan to turn profession any time soon; she wants to play in amateur circle. She wants to make best out of return of fete for now.
