March 7, 2014: None of the five Indians, who contended in the British Open Qualifying event at the Amata Spring Country Club, could make cut after the two-round event that ends today.

Rahil Gangjee, placed 12th on the Asian Tour’s Order of Merit picked up well on the opening day to be tied 15th on Thursday. In the second round however, Gangjee had disappointing start with two bogies on front nine and later a double bogey on 12th and another bogey on 17th sealed his hopes of making it to final four, who qualify for the Open Championship.

SSP Chowrasia’s (78-70) round of 70 on the second day could not bring much favour. Chirag Kumar (73-79) was equally disappointing on day two. The better-known names, Anirban Lahiri and Himmat Rai had a disastrous outing. Lahiri withdrew after the first round of 74 and Himmat shot 79.

Meanwhile, Hiroshi Iwata of Japan (68-71), Wu Ashun of China (72-68) and Pan Cheng- Tsng (70-70) of Taipei booked their place in The Open Championship.

For the fourth spot, Japan’s Tsukada Yoshinobu survived a four-way play-off and emerged as the last man standing to seal his passage into The Open Championship which will be held at Royal Liverpool, Hoylake from July 17-20.
