May 30, 2015: Any hopes of an Indian splash in Ireland were dashed today when all three Indians fell by the wayside at the Irish Open in Northern Ireland. Anirban Lahiri made half a dozen bogeys in his second round 76 to slide to 7-over, just one shot below where the sword fell on Friday. Jeev Milkha Singh and Shiv Kapur made 78 each to end their week early too. Bernd Weisberger and Richie Ramsay were among six men who were tied at 3-under through 36 holes. Only nine men managed to stay below par at what is turning out to be a stern test for skill and temperament.

The host Rory McIlroy managed to stay even with the course on day two, but at 9-over, he was four shots shy of making the weekend. Winds continued to sweep this difficult course and McIlroy’s 80 on Thursday meant that he needed at least a 67 to make the cut. And though McIlroy managed to get through his first 14 holes with two birdies and no bogeys, a double at the 15th put paid to any hopes of a weekend at his own tournament.

A bogey at the 10th to start his day and another at the 15th saw Anirban slide down the order soon as he began his hunt. The Indian made three bogeys over four holes starting at the 4th to slide to 5-over for the day.  Lahiri signed off with 76 for an overall score of 7-over 149.

Jeev took 38 shots for his first nine holes, including bogeys at the 2nd, 6th and 7th as he slipped to 8-over with nine left to play. Any hopes of a recovery on his way to the clubhouse proved improbable, soon as he succumbed to a hattrick of bogeys13th hole. Eventually, Jeev added a 78 to his overnight 76 to end at 12-over 154.

Shiv Kapur made his start on the 10th hole, just as Anirban did. A double bogey at the 15th set him back by two shots and a double bogey at both the 7th and 9th holes meant that he signed off on 14-over 156 to finish very near the bottom of the field.
