Jaibir & Viraj dominate SAARC Golf

Viraj Madappa and Jaibir Singh helped India remain in charge at the 12th SAARC Nations Golf Championship

May 16, 2015: India dominated proceedings for the second straight day, outplaying competition at the 12th SAARC Nations Golf Championship in Bengaluru. Jaibir Singh and Viraj Madappa shot 72 each to rise head and shoulders above the rest of the field at the Karnataka Golf Association course in the heart of this Southern city. India enjoyed a seven shot margin over second placed Bangladesh and massive 27 and 59 shot margins over Bhutan and Afghanistan respectively.

 

The second day featured match play competition – with India playing Bhutan and Bangladesh taking on Afghanistan. The first half saw India and Bangladesh return clean sheets as they won all three matches against their respective opponents.

 

The one contest that stood out from the mundane rest, was the engaging match between Jaibir and Dorji of Bhutan. The match went into a sudden death playoff, with the Indian captain earning victory on the 22nd hole.

 

The second set of matches in the afternoon saw Bangladesh trump Afghanistan on the 10th hole when Akbar Hussain beat Noor Ahmad Fazli by 10 and 8.

 

India defected Bhutan on the 14th hole when Viraj of India beat Karma of Bhutan 5 and 4.
The final will take place on 16th May between India and Bangladesh at 0700 hrs. This will be followed by the SAARC Friendship Cup match with 120 invites from India and SAARC region will play 18 holes.
