Sep 5, 2016: Jason Day‘s family suffered a car crash last week, during the first round of the Deutsche Bank Championship. As the players battled it out at TPC Boston on Friday, the car in which Ellie and the kids were driving was hit by a bus. Fortunately though, there was no significant injuries in the accident.

The crash occured when his family – wife Ellie and children Dash and Lucy were heading to the RV that they use to travel around the USA to play on the PGA TOUR.

Day confirmed the incident through a statement issued on Friday. His wife Ellie was taken to hospital immediately after the accident, but it was mainly a precautionary exercise to rule out any injuries. The golfer himself was informed of the accident at the end of his round.

“After the completion of my round today I was informed my wife Ellie, our children Dash and Lucy,  and friend Katie were involved in a traffic incident near our RV. Their car was hit by a bus and Ellie was taken to the hospital for precautionary measures,” read the statement released by Day.

“Thankfully everyone is now resting comfortably and Ellie has been released. They will all be monitored in the coming days. We want to thank the emergency services and hospital personnel for their assistance.”

Day travels around the TOUR in a custom made RV that also doubles up as the family’s accommodation during tournaments. It is understood Ellie was heading to the RV to care for her children, who were both with her in the car during the accident.

After scoring 70 and 71 in the first two rounds, Jason jumped 29 spots on Saturday with a timely 68. At 4-under through 54 holes, the Aussie golfer is well off the pace at the front, but gives himself an outside chance of a top twenty finish.

Paul Casey made a hat-trick of 66s to gain a three shot lead ahead of the final round. The winds are expected to pick up on Sunday, making it a tricky trek to the finish.
