December 11, 2013. The top 12 Indian golfers will vie for Thailand Golf Championship starting tomorrow at Amata Spring Country Club. Waiting for a return of form, Jeev Milkha Singh will lead the Indian challenge along with in-form duo Anirban Lahiri and Gaganjeet Bhullar.
The recent Indonesian Open winner, Bhullar would like to end the year on a winning note. Anirban Lahiri too would like to add one more title after winning one this season.
Seasoned Jeev, India`s most successful golfer, is looking to end the year with a morale-boosting show during a season that has seen him dip as low as 281 in world rankings. Jeev, who made a decent start in 2013 when he finished 17th at Volvo Champions on European Tour and 10th at Dubai Desert Classic besides three other top-25 finishes, has unable to live up due to injuries in the second half of the season. Since the BMW PGA Championships in early May, Jeev has missed 14 cuts, withdrawn once, and made the cut only three times, of which two occasions were in Japan.
Their challenge at Bangkok this week includes the most successful player of 2013, World no. 3 Henrik Stenson, who emerged as the topper in FedEx Cup and Race to Dubai in the world`s two strongest Tours on either side of the Atlantic.
The field will constitute two of the world`s top four ranked players and also three Major champions. Along with defending champion Charl Schwartzel, 2012 Masters winner, Bubba Watson and US Open winner, Justin Rose will be star contenders in the field. Then stellar field will also have Sergio Garcia, Americans Rickie Fowler and Hunter Mahan and the Japanese sensation Ryo Ishikawa.
Dozen Indians vying for the Thailand Golf trophy includes Jeev, Bhullar, Lahiri, Digvijay Singh, SSP Chowrasia, Himmat Rai, Jyoti Randhawa, Sujjan Singh, C Muniyappa, Ajeetesh Sandhu, Abhijit Chadha and Abhinav Lohan — will fight it out at Amata Spring from Thursday.
