June 14, 2015: It has been a very reassuring week for Jeev Milkha Singh. He may have been practicing his craft in faraway Atzenbrugg, a small municipality in the state of Lower Austria, but he sure felt at home with his game on song. Singh (69-73-72-70) finished at 4-under 284 to earn his best finish in recent memory. Chris Wood was the standout performer on Sunday, riding from five shots back to claim the title with a brilliant 67 under pressure to clinch the Lyoness Open title.
The biggest disappointment was Gregory Bourdy, the runaway lead for three straight days. With his reflection shining on the trophy, the Frenchman blinked and did so rather badly. He ended his week with a miserable 78 to slip down to T6.
Barring a triple bogey at the first hole in the second round and a double bogey on the 7th of the third round, Singh has been a disciplined warrior this week.
Jeev floated to six under overall after making four birdies in the first seven holes on Sunday, including two consecutive snips at the 6th and 7th holes.
But a bogey dampened his spirits just before making the turn and he took two more dents at the eleventh and twelfth holes to slip back to three under with six to play.
The 43 year old steadied his rocking bag to prevent any further damage, before going back to four under with a birdie at the 15th hole.
Singh finished with 33-37 in the final round to force his way up the order in the final round. And though the bogeys around the turn harmed his cause, Jeev won a handy € 14,925 for his efforts this week.
More importantly, the man from Chandigarh will know that the incremental efforts on his journey are taking him in the right direction.
It was an adventure that must have filled him with renewed hope in his zealous quest for rediscovery after being laid low for long by injury and loss of form.
