December 8, 2013. Miguel Angel Jiménez broke his own record as The European Tour’s oldest winner by retaining his Hong Kong Open title after a play-off with Stuart Manley and Prom Meesawat.

The 49-year-old Jimenez rolled in an 18 foot putt at the 18th hole to become the oldest winner in European Tour history, breaking his own record when he won in Hong Kong last year. The Spaniard ripped a drive down the 18th hole to leave just a short iron in, and when he wedged left of the hole, he poured in a slick putt from right to left down the slope and into the hole. Meesawat had looked like securing a par having missed the green short, while Manley pushed his approach behind the hospitality unit and after a free drop had looked like struggling for his four. It didn’t matter for either though, as Jimenez secured the win with a birdie three.

Indian duo, Anirban Lahiri( 68-70-67-69) and Shiv Kapur (69-66-66-73) finished tied 12th at the Hong Kong Open. Shiv had a disastrous final round to slip from his second position on Saturday to 12th after carding 73. Jyoti Randhawa ended tied 30th and youngster Himmat Rai finished his game at 57th position.

Jimenez sparked his trademark cigar on the 18th green and received his fourth trophy, a familiar one. “One, two, three, and soon four,” he said, pointing to the places on the cup where his name is engraved.

Stuart Manley was disappointed to have lost, the trophy he came pretty close to winning.

“I’m pretty pleased to be honest. There’s some disappointment to lose in the play-off with a poor shot. But for Miguel to make birdie was pretty special. It was pretty special for me to even get into the play-off so I can take a lot from that,” said Manley
