June 2, 2016: Kapil Dev, the Indian cricket legend who captained his country to the 1983 World Cup title, is returning to the scene of another one of his sporting triumphs – the Costa Smeralda Invitational at Pevero Golf Club on Saturday June 25.

After winning the first Costa Smeralda Invitational event last year, the Indian Cricketer of the Century will again tee it up in the stunning Sardinian region to take on a host of stars from the world of sports and entertainment, including tournament host and Ryder Cup Captain Darren Clarke. Aiming to defend his Blue Jacket – which he received from 2015 host Justin Rose – Dev will join other stars in a quest to raise money for official charity UNICEF and its Road to Awareness initiative.

“Last year’s Costa Smeralda Invitational was a tremendous success and I’m really looking forward to returning again to help raise money for a very special cause – even if I don’t win this time!” said Dev, who plays off an impressive 3 handicap. “The golf course at Pevero is typical of the spectacular Sardinian region, an area I will never tire of visiting,” added Dev.

As part of Dev’s return to Italy this year, Dev will also offer a hole-by- hole guide to the breathtaking Pevero Golf Club. “Hopefully I can help everyone playing this year with some tips on the course, but we’ll see how
useful they are come the event!”

As well as the star-studded golf event – which will include a clinic from Clarke and a ‘Beat the Pro’ contest with the Ryder Cup captain – the Costa Smeralda Invitational weekend will incorporate a welcome dinner the day before the competition and a gala dinner following the tournament. During the competition there will be a number of fun challenges for the stars to take on, whilst an exclusive partner’s programme, including spa treatments and winery tour, is also on offer.

Last year’s event raised over £100,000 for the children’s charities Autism Rocks and UNICEF Road to Awareness. This year the Costa Smeralda Invitational is proud to partner with UNICEF again to support its domestic and international humanitarian work.
