March 12, 2015: Kiran Matharu played a flawless round of 6 under 66 on the final day today to win the eighth leg of the Hero Women’s Professional Golf Tour 2015. This is Kiran’s second title in six appearances this season. Veteran golfer Smriti Mehra finished second with a total score of 203, followed by Hero Order of Merit leader Vani Kapoor. The INR 7,00,000 event culminated today at the Classic Golf & Country Club.

Kiran played sensational golf throughout the week, and today was no different. Her blemish free round of 6 under 66 included six birdies on the 2nd, 7th, 10th, 11th, 15th and 18th holes. She finished her campaign with a total score of 199 after the final round. Veteran Smriti Mehra could not maintain her momentum after carding a record breaking 7 under 65 yesterday. Her round of 3 under 69 today saw the veteran golfer falter at critical moments. She started impressively, carding a birdie on the 1st hole. She added another birdie on the 6th hole before dropping a shot on the 8th in her front nine. She tried her best to catch up by carding three birdies on the 13th, 15th and 18th holes, but a bogey on the 14th hole marred her effort.

Delhi youngster Vani Kapoor finished third with a total score 206 after 54 holes. She carded 4 under 68 in the final round with birdies on the 2nd, 5th, 7th, 9th, 11th and 12th holes, while dropping shots on the 13th and 16th holes. Noida’s Vaishavi Sinha took the fourth spot, carding 2 under 70 on the final day to finish with a total score of 209.

Pune’s Shweta Galande finished fifth with a total score of 211, followed by Kolkata’s Neha Tripathi at sixth position with 213. Panchkula’s Amandeep Drall with 215, and Delhi’s Gauri Monga with 217, finished seventh and eighth respectively.

Overall this was a momentous week for women’s golf in the country with as many as seven women breaking par at the Gurgaon course. Out of them five women signed an under par card in each of the three rounds. The week was also made special by the 65 scored by Mehra to establish a new Tour record on Thursday.
