February 22, 2014: A three-member Nepali golf team will be in India to participate in the 11th SAARC Golf Championship slated for February 24-27 at the Tollygunge Club in Kolkata.

The Surya Nepal NGA Youth Golf Development Programme products Dinesh Prajapati and Bishnu Prasad Sharma along with junior golfer Tanka Karki will participate in the tournament, while Nepal Golf Association President Madhukar Yakthumba will accompany the players as the team manager.

The players were selected as per their world ranking, informed NGA General Secretary Tashi Ghale. Tanka, who is currently undergoing training at the Royal Calcutta Golf Club, was picked after he qualified for the Faldo Series finals to be held at the Mission Hills in China in March.

After the Kolkata event, Nepal No 1 Dinesh and No 2 Bishnu will also take part in two other tournaments — Bangladesh Amateur Golf Championship slated for March 5-8 in Dhaka and NCR Cup at the Delhi Golf Club from March 10-14. The players will then join other golfers at home to play in the Lumbini National Championships and Nepal Amateur Open.

“As both of us are in good shape, we hope to reach the final in Kolkata,” said Dinesh. After undergoing three-month training in South Korea, Bishnu was sent to Thailand for another two-month camp. “We will try our best and put in our 100 per cent in the tournament,” said Bishnu.

National Sports Council Member Secretary Yuvaraj Lama, president of Nepal Karate Federation Dawa Gurung and NGA General Secretary Ghale bade farewell to the team. Surya Nepal Pvt Ltd Brand Manager Keshav Pradhan was also present during the occasion.
