October 03, 2014: After a resounding victory at the Eagleburg Masters, Rashid Khan is back on top of the PGTI Order of Merit. The 2013 Order of Merit winner leads S Chikkarangappa by approximately Rupees five lakhs. Incidentally, these are the two men who finished top two last year too. The winners cheque of 6.46 lakhs has boosted Khan’s earnings this season to over 21.25 lakhs, for a handy lead over the second placed Chikkarangappa. The Bengaluru golfer has earned 16.82 lakhs this season to trail the man from Delhi.
Last season, Rashid was runaway winner finishing with nearly 14 lakhs more than Chikka to clinch the Order of Merit title. There is still some ways to go before we call time on this season and enhanced prize money on the PGTI should mean that the race is still very open.
The hallmark of Khan’s reign over the PGTI has been his consistency. He made the cut at each of the events on the PGTI since the beginning of last season – a run that has now stretched to 24 events. Khan finished inside the top 10 at 10 of 17 events in 2013 and each of his seven tournaments this season.
While both Chikka and Mithun Perera have enjoyed two victories this year compared to only one for Khan, neither has enjoyed a clean top ten record like the leader of the order of merit. In fact no other man has managed to finish inside the top 10 as has Khan in each of his outings this year.
Interestingly, none of the other men inside top ten last season have managed to emulate that this year giving the list a brand new flavour this year.
