Sept 15, 2014. In what was a most amusing incident for the gallery and a perfect shot for Rory McIlroy, he ended up driving the ball into someone’s pocket. This is when his tee shot at the 14th hole of the Tour Championship in Atlanta went to the right arriving straight into a guy’s shorts.

A rules official asked the man if he had moved his position after the ball landed in his pocket, and when he said he hadn’t, McIlroy joked, “I told him to go a bit that way,” pointing toward the fairway. This made for a special moment for everyone at the event as people took it in their stride just as much as Rory McIlroy.

Fortunately for all concerned, the spectator was allowed to reach into his pocket and hand the ball to the world’s top-ranked player (you never know, with golf’s arcane rule book). “I wasn’t going in there,” McIlroy said with a laugh after his round. “I know how sweaty my pockets are. I’m not going in anyone else’s.”
