Feb 16, 2017: Australia’s Brett Rumford and England’s Mark Foster made their early moves when they fired matching six-under-par 66s to grab the first round lead at the ISPS HANDA World Super 6 Perth on Thursday.

Indian trio Jeev Milkha Singh, Chiragh Kumar and Shiv Kapur scored similar two-under par 70.

Jeev shot three birdies and a lone bogey to tie at T43, lying at five shots behind the leaders Rumford and Foster. “I’m pretty happy with my round as I’ve been working quite hard especially with my mental coach who has helped me a lot. I tried to do what he told me to do on the golf course today and I finished well with birdies in my closing two holes for a two-under, which is good. I’m comfortable on this golf course and I love how it plays,” said Jeev.

Other Indians SSP Chawrasia, Chikkarangappa and Jyoti Randhawa carded 71 each to tie at 56th, while Gaganjeet Bhullar (72) and Rahil Gangjee (75) were further down in tied 80th and tied 128th places respectively.

Golf history will be made at the Lake Karrinyup Country Club with the introduction of a novel format which sees the top 24 players after 54 holes making it through to a six-hole match play format this week.

Foster together with Rumford, who hails from Perth, dropped only one shot each as they made their way to the top of the leaderboard at the AUD$1.75 million event that is that is tri-sanctioned by the Asian Tour, the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia and European Tour.

Reigning Asian Development Tour (ADT) Order of Merit champion Johannes Veerman of the United States continued to show his class following a tied-12 finish in Malaysia last week by carding a 67 to be among the 10 players that also included Japan’s Hideto Tanihara and compatriot Casey O’Toole bunched in third place.

Thailand’s Pavit Tangkamolprasert also put himself into a good position for the week after he returned with a 68. The Thai is looking forward to his maiden matchplay competition after lighting up his round with two eagles, three birdies and three bogeys.
