Sergio Garcia becomes a Father

Mar 14, 2018: Life is good for Sergio Garcia. The 38 year old won his first Major last April, got married in July, won the tournament he and his charitable foundation hosted in October, was named Hilton Player of the Year in December and today he became a father for the first time.

The Spaniard and his wife Angela welcomed a daughter this morning, born at 1.54 am. As for the name, the Garcias chose Azalea, also the name of the 13th hole at Augusta where Sergio made a miraculous par en route to victory 11 months ago.

Fresh off a top five finish at the Valspar Championship last weekend, Garcia flew to Austin, Texas, to be with his wife as they prepared to welcome their first child. Garcia was due to speak to golf media on Tuesday afternoon but was forced to teleconference from the hospital after his wife’s water broke.

“It’s been an eventful morning,” Garcia said. “About an hour and a half ago Angela’s waters broke so we’re at the hospital right now, kind of checking in. It’s very exciting and nerve-wracking at the same time. It’s kind of surreal. I’m excited and a little nervous for Angela and the baby to make sure everything goes well.”

Everything did go well and hours later Azalea Adele Garcia entered the world.

It appears, from this photo from Angela Garcia in October, that Azalea will already have something to wear when her father heads to Augusta to defend his Masters title in three weeks time.
