June 15, 2014. India’s Shiv Kapur who is playing his maiden US Open at Pinehurst North Carolina will be donning patriotic ‘Indian’ colours for the second round. Kapur finished three over par 73 to be T68 with 18 others in a course that’s being called very tough despite Martin Kaymer’s very low 65.

Kapur has picked an orange tee shirt, deep blue trouser and a deep blue belt for his R2 attire. In the Indian flag the top panel is saffron representing courage, the middle panel has the chakra in navy blue which is a symbol of righteousness and the bottom panel is green. So on green fairways, Kapur is wearing his patriotism on his sleeve. He often wears his country colours and mostly you will have an India grip on his clubs. The Ralph Lauren Ambassador wore a blue tee and white trousers for the first day.

Kapur wasn’t pleased with his first round but did admit it gives him room to rise up the leaderboard as he thought the course didn’t play as tough as it had in some of the practise rounds. “Round one was steady golf nothing fantastic but managed to hang tough and give myself a chance going into tomorrow,” he said in an exclusive chat with golfingindian.com

Kapur teed off from the tenth and had three pars before finding his first birdie. On the par-4 13th playing to 391 yards, Kapur drove with a 3-Iron and followed that up with a superb second shot with 9-Iron to landed within six feet.

He duly holed it for his first birdie. Following up that birdie with four more pars, he came to the ninth, where he missed the green in regulation.

Kapur paid with a bogey and turned in even par in tied 12th place at that stage. But the couple of bogeys that followed knocked him off several positions to put outside of the leader mix. “I had to stay very patient with some tough pins today but overall conditions were a tad more friendly than the practise rounds.”
