September 10, 2014: The KLM Open headlines European Tour action this week. with Shiv Kapur, Gaganjeet Bhullar and Jeev Milkha Singh in action at the Kennemer Golf and Country Club. The action travels this week to the North Holland beach resort of Zandvoort, where Shiv Kapur will seek to continue his good run and bolster his position in the Race to Dubai rankings. Bhullar is seeking to stop the bleeding – he has missed the cut at both his previous outings in Italy and Switzerland – and revive his flagging fortunes. Since finishing T26 in Russia, Bhullar has been foraging in the rough for the most part. Jeev Milkha Singh has been in the rough and tumble too, so much so that he hasn’t seen a golfing weekend in a long time this season.

After a string of steady results, Kapur suffered a jolt when he stumbled to a missed cut at the Omega European Masters. Even though Shiv tried his best to recover from a 74 in the first round, but with the course playing soft, Kapur fell through the sieve despite a fine 67 in the second round. The 183rd ranked golfer will look to build on that effort to try and enjoy a good week in Netherlands.

The tournament has a rich history that dates back to the early twentieth century. Last year Joost Luiten sent the galleries into a tizzy when he outplayed Miguel Angel Jiménez in a tense play off to bring the title home for the first time since Maarten Lafeber won it a decade earlier. Luiten has warmed up nicely with a top five finish in Italy last month and is seeking to emulate the feat of Bob Byman, the only man to successfully defend the title here since it was added to the European Tour in 1972.
