June 12, 2014. Shiv Kapur is all set, his blue tee shirt and white trousers are out and placed next to his well equipped golf set. His maiden US Open promises to be more than special for this Purdue graduate who is not new to America’s fairways but admits Pinehurst is all together another ball game. “The course is very very tough,” said Kapur in an exclusive chat with golfingindian.com. “Particularly around the greens, it’s a course that needs plenty of imagination and thinking.”

Patience will be key and that’s something Bob Rotella has been discussing with Kapur during his sessions at Pinehurst. “The one thought will be patience and focus will be on getting lot of pars.”

Kapur has picked up a brand new set of XHot irons and hopes that will keep him in good stead. He also got his drivers tested by the experts at the equipment major. Kapur has been training under two specialists – Bob Rotella for the mental game and James Gough.

Kapur came close to qualifying for the US Open in 2004 but didn’t make it. Ten years down he is feeling elated and proud. “Playing in the Majors is something else, and ten years later I have finally made it. It’s a great feeling.” The Indian golfer who has passed out of Purdue in 2004 and played a lot across United States also said, ““Being at Purdue for four years, it sort of becomes your dream to play in the U.S. Open.”
