October 05, 2014: India’s Shiv Kapur, needing a substantial round of golf to climb up the ladder, failed to produce one on Sunday at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. Kapur gave away eight more places after a 74 in the final round of the tournament in Scotland. His scores of 70-72-70-74 left him in a five way tie for 66th at 2-under 286. The Indian is now lying 83rd in the Race to Dubai, where only the top 60 get to play for a large pot of gold.

Playing on the Old Course at St. Andrews, Kapur slipped quickly. A bogey at the 13th was followed by a pair of successive bogeys at the 16th and 17th holes as he fell three over for the day. Kapur had started his day at four under and with scores climbing into the high teens elsewhere, he was leaving himself too much to do on the final stretch.

Any hopes of a significant recovery were dashed, as he went about making par after par from the first hole. His run was punctuated by a rare birdie at the fifth hole, but that was too little too late. Kapur closed with four straight pars from there to end his tournament on a disappointing note.

However, Kapur deserves credit for holding his own amongst a competitive field with the golf played on three different courses over four rounds. The cut was set after the third round, to ensure each golfer had the chance to play all three courses – the Old Course at St. Andrews, Carnoustie and Kingsbarns Golf Links.

Unfortunately for Indian golf fans, Kapur was left a lone warrior after Jeev Milkha Singh stumbled to another missed cut after lying 8-over through three rounds. With only a few holes left to be played, Oliver Wilson (16th hole) was leading by one at 17-under over Richie Ramsay (in the clubhouse at 16-under 272) and Tommy Fleetwood (17th hole).
