July 24, 2015: Shubham Jaglan’s endearing story of success gained another chapter. The 10 year old golf prodigy made another break through by winning a second consecutive international junior title. Having conquered San Diego, the young warrior reigned over Las Vegas on Thursday in winning the IJGA World Stars of Junior Golf event.
We have already narrated the tugging story of this rural kid from Haryana, who hails from a wrestling family. But just for effect, let us remind ourselves that his father delivered milk and the son practiced his craft around village fields.
Naglan scored a five shot victory over an international field of junior golfers, with an overall score of 106 over three rounds. The Indian boy won a handy victory over Americans Justin Dang, Sihan Sandhu and Thailand’s Pongsapak Laopakdee.
Jaglan’s fresh heroics came at Angel Park in taking the Boys 9-10 years category title. It is an impressive feat for the young lad, who won the Junior World Golf Championships last Sunday on California’s Welk Resort Fountain Course.
“It’s just a dream come true. It was all my year’s hard work. I am celebrating in a great way. All my friends are congratulating me,” said an elated Shubham, speaking with news agencies immediately after his victory. “It was all because of my family’s support, my coach, my school which helped me in the US. That’s why I could speak to you actually and (am grateful to) my golf club DGC for giving me all facilities for playing. Especially my dad supported me through my life and it has been a great journey.”
With a quiver full of well heeled senior golfers flying the flag for India on the Asian and European Tours, Shubham’s success is underlining the fact that golf is on the verge of a major lift off in the country.
