November 10, 2013. Bangladesh’s golf star Siddikur bags a huge win at the Delhi Golf Club to grab the Indian Open trophy. But at times there were moments he looked like he would be in a bit of a struggle with Angelo Que and Anirban Lahiri notching up close and uncomfortable. But finally he cracked a victory with a fourteen under 274 thanks to three life saving birdies in the back nine.

Of Siddikur’s four rounds, this final one was his worst as he suddenly started dropping shots. Six bogies and a worse on hole 16th scarred his scoreboard. A round four total of 75 and Siddikur would have preferred more style to close this tournament. Nevertheless for the Bangladeshi this is a massive victory on a course he has played several times. In a recent interview Siddikur shared he wanted to fix his game and rectify mistakes. [Read Here]

STELLAR SHOW BY INDIANS

Anirban Lahiri made a significant leap on the leader board today displaying how well he knows the Delhi Golf Club where he has won the SAIL-SBI Open not once but twice over. 13 under 275 for Lahiri with a nearly clean round in his back nine won him strokes to rise up. As Siddikur dropped his shots, Lahiri benefitted from them. The People’s Choice Winner at the recently held INDIA GOLF AWARDS, Anirban was in full form and was cheered by the gallery collected at the Delhi Golf Club.

Also tied at the same spot was SSP Chowrasia who performed spectacularly well to finish thirteen under. Chiragh Kumar was the other Indian to score who was tied fourth.

GAME SO FAR

Siddikur continued to dominate the Hero Indian Open when he shot a flawless third round five-under-par 67 to extend his lead by four shots over local hope S.S.P. Chowrasia on Saturday.

The Bangladeshi hit a sublime chip from the greenside bunker on hole 18 to put himself in prime position to win his second Asian Tour title since 2010 at the US$1.25 million Asian Tour event.

Chowrasia, a two-time Asian Tour winner, closed with two birdies for a 66 while Rashid Khan of India, who grew up at the Delhi Golf Club, and Filipino Angelo Que shot a 65 and 67 respectively to share third on 204 at the venerable Delhi Golf Club.

Siddikur, who has only dropped two shots in 54 holes, said that he is playing his best golf since turning professional in 2007.

“It has been a great week. This is the best I’ve played in my career. I’m putting and hitting the ball so well. Mentally I’m strong and I’m very focussed,” said the Bangladeshi, who leads with a three-day total of 17-under-par 199.

“When I won in Brunei, I had to play safe because I wanted to save my Asian Tour card and make some money to survive on the Tour. Now, I’m not playing for money. I’m hungry for achievements so that’s my target.”
