Celebrating Happy Birthday of SSP Chawrasia

May 24, 2017: SSP Chawrasia is back in action after a period of rest, training and promoting junior golf in Kolkata. He is set to resume his quest for a maiden overseas victory on the European Tour when he tees off in the BMW PGA Championship.

Chawrasia is having another wonderful season, rising to second on the Asian Tour Order of Merit, on the strength of his Hero Indian Open win. He skipped the Thailand Open last week to prepare for his journey to Europe.

Wentworth also assumes significance for Chawrasia in light of his US Open aspirations. A good run this week could help him work his way into the major tournament through the qualifiers.

The last professional outing for Chawrasia was in the company of S Chikkarangappa. The duo represented India in the Golf Sixes Event at St. Albans, England.

They lost to the team of Andy Sullivan and Chris Wood, in the opening match of the league stages. Chawrasia will see Wood again this week, as he is defending champion at the BMW PGA Championship.

The event is an annual fixture on the European Tour, playing its 63rd edition this week in Wentworth.

Chawrasia has 4 wins on the European Tour, but each of them has come in India. He will be eager this week to use his form and experience to try and clinch one overseas.

That or a high finish should serve him well as he tries to push his way into the US Open qualifiers scheduled this June.
