After a second-round 65 at Sycamore Hills, Anirban Lahiri headed to the range to work on his long game. He had hit only 14 of 28 fairways over the first two rounds, but he was confident that he could fix what he described as a minor alignment issue.

Lahiri hit 10 of 14 fairways in a third-round 70 that leaves him in solo second place entering the final round, three back of leader D.H. Lee.

The 28-year-old India native is not sure that his driving was much improved in round three, though. He is happy with the progress he’s making fundamentally after taking some time off after finishing T5 at the PGA Championship – but he wants to find more confidence on the course in Sunday’s final round.

“I don’t know how you would grade C and C-minus,” said Lahiri, the 40th ranked player in the world, when asked if he drove the ball better on Saturday. “I don’t know. It wasn’t good. I say that because my game usually is a ball-striking game; it’s not a scrambling game. … I just want the real Anirban to show up tomorrow.

“I think it’s more about confidence on the course. When you’re not confident off the tee, you’re not picking lines; you’re seeing areas where you don’t want to hit it. … The more comfortable I get on the range, the more comfortable I can get on the tee, and I can put myself in better spots.”
