Jamshedpur, October 10: Simarjeet Singh and Samarth Dwivedi made sure Uttar Pradesh ‘A’ strolled to a brilliant victory at the Tata Steel Inter State Golf Championship 2014 being played here at the Par – 71 Golmuri Golf Course.

Udayan Mane clinched the individual event for the second year running on this golf course as he shot a five-under par 66 for the day and eighteen-under par 266 for the week for a three stroke victory over Simarjeet Singh. Udayan combined with teammate Jaibir Singh (68) to take home the runner up honors of the team event.

Trishul Chinnappa of Karnataka ‘B’ edged out Md. Wasil and Samarth Dwivedi on countback as he finished third ten strokes behind the winner at eight-under 276. Aman Raj, one of the only four players to post four red digit scores through the week was placed sixth a further stroke behind followed by Tamil Nadu ‘A’s Sidhartha Sharatram and Anant Singh Ahlawat of Haryana ‘B’ at five-under 279 for the week.

Udayan started today’s duel with a two stroke lead over Simarjeet, who dropped a stroke on the first to go three off the lead. However he made up for that mistake immediately as he made a hat trick of birdies on the following holes to which Udayan responded with consecutive birdies on the 3rd and the 4th holes to maintain a two stroke cushion. Simarjeet was going for the pins as he made another birdie on the par 4 6th hole followed by two more on the 8th and 9th holes. Udayan did stay in front all through as he gained his own strokes on the 7th and the 9th to go out with a lead of one stroke. He extended the lead on the Par 5 11th hole and delivered a sucker punch when he holed out for an eagle 2 on the 13th hole. He went four clear with five hole to play and the veteran ran out of steam till they finished their 72nd hole of the week.

Simarjeet, reflecting on his individual runner up and team victory said, “I tried my level best out there but Udayan is in the form of his life at the moment and congratulations to him.” He added, “Samarth played outstanding golf and we were able to go low all four rounds and bring glory to Uttar Pradesh.”
