Bengaluru, 10th July 2015: Delhi youngster Vani Kapoor played a splendid round of golf to walk away with the winner’s cheque in the 10th leg of the Hero Women’s Professional Golf Tour 2015 at the Eagleton Golf Resort here on Friday.

 

Vani started her day as the joint leader and returned with a card of 4 under 68 in the final round, the best by any golfer in the tournament, to win her fourth title of the season in 10 appearances. Saaniya Sharma of Chandigarh carded 1 under 71 to claim the runners-up cheque. The INR 7,00,000 event culminated here today.

 

Hero Order of Merit leader Vani, one of the firm favourites here, played brilliantly to finish with a final score of 214. She started the day on a positive note playing a bogey-free front nine, with two birdies on the 1stand 7th holes. On the back-nine, Vani carded birdies on the 13th, 17th and 18th holes, while her only blemish of the round was a bogie on the 12th hole.

 

She now has more wins than any other golfer in the season, and victory here will open up a substantial lead for her in the money list.

 

Runner-up Saaniya started the day in third position, and made her intent clear with a birdie on the 1st hole. She played a bogey-free front nine and kept up the chase . Saaniya began the back nine carding a birdie on the 10th and 13thholes. However, two bogies on the 12th and 17th undid her effort and she had to be content with the second spot with a total score of 219.

 

Amatuer Diksha Dagar and Neha Tripathi finished tied third as their campaign ended with an identical score of 224 after the final round. Diksha, one of the six amateurs playing in the event, started off with three consecutive bogies on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd holes. However, she adjusted herself to the conditions well, and played a blemish free back nine with two birdies on the 11th and 13thth holes to end the round at 2 over 74.

 

Kolkata’s Neha Tripathi dropped four shots on the 2nd, 9th, 11th and 15th holes, with a lone birdie on the 4th hole to finish the day with a score of 3 over 75.

 

Defending champion Mehar Atwal, who started the day at tied first position, carded a birdie on the first hole. However, she could not sustain the momentum and dropped shots on the 2nd, 6th and 8th holes, along with double bogies on the 7th, 13th and 16th holes. Eventually, Mehar ended the day at a score of 7 over 79 and took the fifth position with a total score of 225.

 

Panchkula’s Amandeep Drall, Delhi’s Ankita Tiwana and Kapurthala’s Gursimar Badwal, all ended with a total score of 226 to finish tied sixth.?Pune’s Shweta Galande with 227 and amateur Suchitra Ramesh with 229 ended 9th and 10threspectively.
