Vani Kapoor shot her way inside the top ten at the Mineks & Regnum Ladies Classic. The event is a Let Access tournament being played at the National Golf Club in Antalya, Turkey. Saaniya Sharma, the other Indian was languishing in the bottom quarter after slipping to a 10 over 83 in the first round. Kapoor made a two over 75 to join Daisy Nielsen, Emma Tayler and Tara Delaney in a tie for 8th. Melanie Maetzler and Caroline Rominger are in the lead after making two under 71 on Friday.
Vani started her round with a bogey at the first hole, but back to back birdies at the fourth and fifth helped her get one up on the course. A bogey at the par-4 eighth dropped Vani back to even par. She courted trouble at the tenth, where she eventually settled for a double bogey. Vani gained a stroke at the par-5 14th hole, but gave it back at the penultimate hole to settle for a 75.
Saaniya suffered from one hole to the next as she stumbled to eight bogeys and a double bogey at the first hole to give away 10 shots to the course at the National Golf Club. She started with a 7 at the par-5 first hole and never quite recovered from there. Sharma took 42 shots to get through the front nine and another 41 on her way back to the club.
Three birdies and a bogey gave Melanie enough in the bag to gain a one shot lead over Charlotte Wild, who needed 72 shots to get around the course. The Swiss is in a tie for first along with her compatriot Rominger, who made a remarkable recovery. Rominger had a miserable opening, an eight at the par-5 first hole setting her back very early in the round. But despite that and another bogey at the 10th, Rominger managed to sign off with a 71.
