November 18, 2015: Delhi golfer Vani Kapoor underlined her status as the pre-tournament favourite by taking a three shot lead at the end of the first round of the 17th leg on the Hero Women’s Pro Golf Tour. Vani shot an even 72 to fire into the lead, ahead of Gursimar Badwal, who was lying second three shots back.

The young order of merit leader made birdies at the 10th and 15th holes, but bogeys at holes 13 and 16 saw her sign on an even card at the 6,267 yard course in Noida.

Badwal made three birdies but also surrendered four bogeys and a double bogey at the par-4 7th hole to account for her 75.

Four golfers were lying third, a further two shots behind Badwal. Shweta Galande took 37 shots on the front nine and 40 to march back to the clubhouse including four bogeys and a double.

Gauri Monga’s card held up a mirror to Shweta – taking 37 on the outward nine before making the return stretch in 40 shots.

Neha Tripathi scripted a stirring recovery after needing 43 shots to get through her first nine holes. Neha was in fact seven over through just seven holes, before getting her house in order.

Smriti Mehra was two under through seven holes, having made birdies at the first two holes. But she suffered a sudden dip in form, bleeding seven shots between the 8th and 15th holes to slip down the leaderboard.

Amateur Tavleen Batra also showed great promise as the day progressed. She was seven over through the first eight holes, before recovering with the help of three birdies on the back nine for a relatively respectable 78.

Amandeep Drall struggled to find her range as she tied in seventh with Tavleen, after giving away four straight bogeys and a double bogey during a stretch from the 8th through 12th holes.

Ankita Tiwana was lying ninth after she posted 79, including a triple bogey eight at the 17th hole.
