Aadil Bedi and Vasundhara Thiara win schools event

Aadil Bedi and Vasundhara Thiara proved more than a handful as they outsmarted children from eleven other schools to win by four shots

The team of Aadil Bedi and Vasundhara Thiara won the All India Interschool Albatross Golf championship. The duo represented Vivek High School, Chandigarh. They defeated the Modern School team of Saarthak Chhibber and Ananya Barthakur in a two round competition. Aadil and Vasundhara edged the Delhi school duo by four shots. The two young golfers also won their respective categories, A and B in the individual competition.

Aadil recorded a comprehensive eight stroke victory over schoolmate Virain Khosla. He shot one under 143 (70-73) in his two rounds to take the title in category A. Vasundhara earned an even more impressive 15 shot victory over Amani Narang. She scored 81 and 76 in her two forays on the course.

The Albatross Team championship in A/ B category Boys/ Girls hosted 12 schools from Chandigarh, Dehradun, New Delhi and Jaipur. Over 100 young golfers participated in the championship at the ITC Classic golf course in Gurgaon.

The team of First Step school, Chandigarh represented by Jujhar Singh and Manjot singh won in C/D category by 6 shots over the team from Modern School, New Delhi.

The victorious boys and girls represent a generation of golfers inspired by the recent growth of the game in India. Aadil and Vasundhara have been doing well in recent months. Aadil finished runner up in the world cup at Las Vegas last month. Vasundhara represented the country in Mercedes Benz golf championship at Thailand and finished in 3rd place.

“It is my dream to represent India in Olympics 2020,” said Aadil, who has his goals clearly mapped. He is trained by a three member team – Gurmeet Singh, his athletic trainer; Bob Byman, the point man in the USA and his regular coach Jesse Grewal at the CGA.

Aadil was also a winner of the Karnataka Junior Golf Championship in June this year. He defeated Manav Bais by two shots at the Eagleton Golf Resort. Aadil is currently listed number five in Category A on the Indian Golf Union Order of Merit, as at 12 July.
