GolfingIndian.com has an exclusive interview with Suhel Seth who spent an afternoon over lunch with the world number one golfer Tiger Woods. Suhel calls him a ‘family man’ and insists his heart is in the right place. Woods’ launch for the Hero Group says Seth is perfectly timed and promises to give a big boost to the brand owned by Pawan Munjal.

Q. How was your lunch, what struck you about the sportsman?

A. I thought our lunch was fantastic, it was a brilliant meeting with the world’s number one golfer. In many ways I saw a striking similarity between him and Sachin Tendulkar, who he had met the previous night. Both are sincere, passionate about their sport. Tiger came across family oriented and talked about his kids. Now wonder he is going back to Florida to meet his kids.

Q. What was the conversation starter?

A. Given that Tiger and I were meeting on a day Tendulkar received his Bharat Ratna, that was a good conversation starter. I told him this cricket crazy country finally has a reason to pause. He has clearly given the sport a great encouragement. And the best part is Tiger is excited about kids not just adult golf.

Q. What made to Tiger’s plate?

A. Taj Mansingh part of the Taj group of hotels did the food for the lunch. Tiger picked a breast of chicken and veggies although there were plenty of curries and amritsari kulchas.

Q. What souvenirs did Tiger take home?

A. He was too busy to go shopping. He said his visit’s high point was the golf course and he loved it. He was thrilled with the spectators and the galleries and the support they gave him. He didn’t shop but Pawan Munjal’s wife presented Tiger with a Shawl. While Munjal’s daughter who run Chocolat in the capital made a special cake with Tiger’s picture on it in which Tiger is teeing off.

Q. What was the thinking behind bringing the two brands together?

A. Pawan Munjal and Tiger had met several times. Munjal had told Tiger he would love to host him in India. Pawan and I talked earlier…there is no better time or person than tiger woods…who was in town to launch the hero caddie development fund, a fund across the clubs to turn caddies into players, education.
