April 9, 2014: Patna lad Aman Raj was on his way to an encore after the Delhi NCR Cup victory last month when he maintained a one-shot lead at the end of the third round of the Tata Steel Northern India Amateur being played at the Delhi Golf Club here on Wednesday. Aman who shot a 3-over 75 was 3-over 219 for the tournament which will resume on Friday owing to elections.

Reigning Amateur Golf Championship of India champion Pratap Atwal had closed in on the leader having shot the day’s best of 73 to be at 220 while Rohan Rana was and Hemendra Chaudhary were tied for the third spot at 225. Simarjeet Singh and Samarth Dwivedi shared the fifth position at 226.

Overnight leader Aman Raj faltered on his front nine after finding his ball in the dreaded bushes of the Delhi Golf Club on a few occasions. Aman began with a bogey and went on to lose two more strokes after back to back bogeys on the fourth and the fifth hole. However, the diminutive lad resurrected his round with a spate of pars while also making a birdie on the par-4 11th.

With the leader group breathing on each other’s neck, an exciting finish is on the cards.
