Bob’s Blog: Carnoustie wasn’t nasty!

And this is one tough golf course that would test the best of golfers.

The Carnoustie Golf Links

May 28, 2014. Carnoustie.

After a glorious day of golf at the old course it was time to buy some memorabilia. Then it was times for some fun golf as we hit the putting course called the himalayas putting beside the Old Course. Eighteen undulating putting greens, barefoot golfers and beer makes for a fun afternoon especially in the backdrop of the North Sea. At some point we heard bagpipes playing in the background. My golf journey was complete. But there was more to come. After a delicious meal at the Rusacks hotel it was time for some scotch or as they call it in Scotland, whiskey (with an ‘e’). This morning our journey continued via Dundee to Carnoustie. Golf has been played here for 400 years and club was formed in 1839.

And this is one tough golf course that would test the best of golfers. I was just pleased to have hit a straight drive on Hogans Alley ( hole number 6, made famous by Ben hogan’s piercing drives through a narrow fairway) . And yes just like Van de Velde’s disaster on the 18th hole at the 1999 open, I did drop my second shot in the Barry Burn but unlike him I just took a penalty! Another glorious day of golf although I was happy to out car’nasty’ behind me. A two hour scenic drive took us to Aberdeen where we checked into the trump international golf resort. Now time for shut eye as another great day of golf awaits us.
