Cheema aspires for another PGTI title

September 10, 2013. With the home ground advantage, Angad Cheema will vie for another PGTI title after winning Jaipur round in May this year. Chandigarh golfer Angad Cheema will start as one of the top contenders in the third event of the PGTI Feeder tour to be held at Forest Hill Golf Club from Tuesday. Cheema won the national amateur championship last year, won the Jaipur event this season and pocketed Rs 76,290 after the victory.

 

“It’s feels good to be back and playing at home. Even though I will be playing for the first time at the Forest Hill Golf Course, I know the conditions well. We played a practice round today and the course is playing fine. The competition is tough and many experienced golfers are taking part in the event,” Angad Cheema said to The Indian Express.

 

“The victory at Jaipur has boosted my confidence and I am aiming for more such finishes,” shared the golfer, who turned professional at the start of this year,” he added.

Cheema, who is based in Panchkula, started playing golf at the age of 13 at the Army Golf Course, Wellington, as his father was posted there. Cheema was also a part of the Indian team that won a bronze medal in Nomura Cup after a gap of 18 years for India. He was also part of the Indian team that won the SAARC golf tournament played in Jaipur in 2011. The golfer has also been playing on the PGTI Tour and has featured in four PGTI Players’ Championships this year apart from taking part in PGTI Eagleburg Open, where he finished 14th- his best finish in the PGTI Tour this season.

 

“I understand that the transition from the amateur to professional circuit is a tough one and I am still trying to cope up with the challenge. I am happy with my 14th place finish in the PGTI Eagleburg Open and now I am looking forward to the rest of the season,” said Cheema.
